ARTICLE VI - Election and Terms of Officers and Council

Section 6.1. Officers. The President shall serve for one year or until the conclusion of the Scientific Meeting at which time the President-Elect assumes office. The President-Elect serves in that office until becoming president. The Secretary/Treasurer shall serve a term of three years. The Secretary/Treasurer-Elect shall be elected every third year and shall serve this year in that office in overlap with the current Secretary/Treasurer as a Secretary/Treasurer-Elect before assuming the full office of Secretary/Treasurer for three years. The Past-President will serve as a member of the Council and as Chair of the Nominating Committee during the same period as the President. The term of office shall begin at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting.

For a Regular Member of The Society to be eligible for nomination to elective office, he/she must have been an active Regular Member of The Society for a minimum of two years. Election of Officers shall be by a secret mail and/or electronic ballot distributed to Regular Members of The Society not less than forty-five (45) days before the Annual Meeting of The Society and the outcome shall be determined by the majority of the ballots cast.

Section 6.2. Council. There shall be nine (9) Councilors who shall serve terms of three (3) years, three being elected each year. The term of office shall begin at the conclusion of The Society Meeting following their election. For a Regular Member of The Society to be eligible for nomination to the Council, he/she must have been an active Regular Member of The Society for a minimum of two years. Election of Councilors shall be by secret mail and/or electronic ballot distributed to Regular Members of The Society not less than forty five (45) days before the Annual Meeting of The Society and the outcome shall be determined by the majority of ballots returned to the Secretary/Treasurer within 30 days.

Section 6.3. Limitations. No person who has served as President shall be eligible for re-election five years after completing the term of office. The Secretary/Treasurer and Council shall not be eligible for re-election to the same office or position within five years after completing the term of office.

Section 6.4. Filling of Vacancies. Should a vacancy occur in any elected position, the Council, by majority vote, shall designate a member of The Society to fill the unexpired term. The President of The Society shall fill all vacancies in standing or ad hoc committees.
